DIC chief confirms major growth plan

By ITP.net staff writer on Thursday, October 23, 2008

Malek Sultan Al Malek, executive director of Dubai Internet City, has revealed the ICT precinct is set to grow considerably.

Malek Sultan Al Malek, executive director of Dubai Internet City, has revealed the ICT precinct is set to grow considerably.

Dubai Internet City (DIC) is set to reinforce its position as one of the world's largest ICT clusters after revealing plans to expand the size of its campus by 25% within the next two years.

Unveiling concept images of the new buildings for the first time at GITEX Technology Week, DIC executive director Malek Sultan Al Malek confirms the enlarged campus will be constructed within existing DIC boundaries, close to the Dubai Pier area of the campus.

"The project is set for completion by the end of 2010," he explains. "We have been developing the project with consultants TVS and we are  in the process of confirming a construction contractor."

Al Malek says the development will include office space, conference rooms, restaurants and retail outlets, as well as networking areas.

More than 1,200 companies are currently based at DIC and the extension is set to boost that number considerably. "This will accommodate the expansion plans of our major business partners, while also providing office space for new companies coming to DIC," adds Al Malek.

In keeping with Dubai  Government environmental guidelines, all new buildings will be LEED-certified.

DIC also intends to make provisions for parking to account for the anticipated increase in tenants and traffic.

DIC are going to have too much space
Posted by Nigel Hunter, leeds, United Kingdom on 29 October 2008 at 23:34 UAE time

I have tried to speak to an agent at DIC on four occasions, via email, and telephone, leaving voice messages, and have yet to get a response. Ironically my calls relate to my company's interest in taking space at DIC as we look to expand from the UK into the Middle East - I'm not convinced the extra space will be required if everyone else finds it as hard as i to get a contact with a sales person there!
