ICT expected to further drive Qatar GDP

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is expected to significantly increase Qatar’s GDP in the next few years, according to ictQATAR CIO Chan Meng Khoong.

ictQATAR’s programs are tailored to create an impact, which Khoong believes will be evident in the next three to five years to bring about a more efficient government, better access to education and increased foreign investment.

“Our programmes are aimed at building up knowledge that can fuel industries to become economically vibrant. We are facilitating this through programmes spanning from e-government to e-education to cyber safety and security”, Khoong told Qatar’s The Peninsula.

He was keen to point out that one of the main challenges Qatar presently faces is the lack of local knowledge and talent.

“Qatar has to continue leveraging supply of human capital from outside the country. As far as the intellectual capital is concerned we can outsource this easily and ‘rent’ the use of knowledge, but once these consultants leave, the intellectual capital leaves with them. Knowledge is a new fuel for economics that are witnessing rapid growth,” Khoong added.
