BREAKING NEWS :

BT signs deal with Kuwaiti government

By Roger Field on Thursday, November 20, 2008

BT Frontline, a network IT services specialist, has signed a three-year deal with the Kuwaiti government to provide the security infrastructure for the Kuwait Information Network (KIN), which will enable all of Kuwait’s 62 government agencies across the country to share information securely, at higher speeds and more efficiently.

The three-year contract will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will involve setting up the security infrastructure centrally and the installation of the platform in Kuwait’s fifteen government agencies. The rest of the 47 government agencies will be deployed in the second phase.

“This project is aimed at encouraging the public and Kuwaiti government employees to use the e-Government services, whilst at the same time, provide a secure network infrastructure for the Kuwaiti government,” said Lim Chin Hu, CEO of BT South East Asia.

Olivier Campenon, BT President, EMEA region, added that the deal is part of BT’s strategy to move further into value added services to companies and public administration in the region.

The KIN network will be shared by all Kuwaiti government entities and will improve the delivery of information and services, improving efficiencies in government processes. KIN will unify agencies’ external telecommunication services by providing voice and data over a secure fibre-optic network.

Using the KIN, sensitive data, information and confidential government transactions will be better protected. The network will also provide various levels of security to protect agencies from possible risks arising from external networks, including the internet, third-party suppliers and business communities.

BT Frontline is a subsidiary of UK operator BT Group.
